I saw these fellows, playing with a handful of other talented musicians, preform at Bar 107 last night (as they tend to do every Sunday night). I can’t even put into words how amazing they were. It might have been one of the best live shows I’ve ever seen? Also I may want very much to date the trombone player? He gave me a “tromboner”, as Jonah so cleverly remarked. Find out more about them here. They also play at the Hollywood farmers market every weekend.

“Like his Sammy Sosa story a few months back, Schmidt relies on the evidence thrown out of Federal court as inconclusive in the Barry Bonds case. If a Federal Judge threw the Bonds results out, why are results from the same batch of results now conclusive for The New York Times re Sosa, Manny, or Ortiz? They’re not, and one guesses the attorneys who fed Schmidt these stories, and Schmidt himself, hopes for an A-Rod style confession as vindication. If it’s not forthcoming from Sosa, Ortiz, or Manny, then Schmidt actually has some reporting to do, besides waiting for his phone to ring. As steroid fans will recall, at no time could the results said to belong to Bonds from this same batch of tests actually be proven to be Bonds’ results – it needed corroboration from his trainer, Greg Anderson, who refused to talk. It’s why the Federal case against Bonds fell apart in February ‘09, and exactly when the names of the 104 started to leak to the public – ie, February ‘09. Chasing after Selena Roberts’ A-Rod admission of PED use, Schmidt continues to play mouthpiece to lawyers familiar with the case who taint player reputations with No Credible Evidence. If I read Schmidt’s story correctly, he has not personally seen any evidence, shows no sign of making the link Federal prosecutors failed to make, and he has no other sources.”

I have no idea what got me to these guys, the better part of a decade late…I have no idea how I missed them in the first place, other than that they fit a Portland punk-power-popper profile w/ the inevitable Groovies/Shoes/Only Ones/Jam reference portfolio that threw them in a sack with 500 other bands.

But they were pretty darn good, and this song is p.d. undeniable. Three of them died, tourbus MVA, July 2003, outside Eugene. The explosive end to a rock and roll heart.

It’s just tasty. Just because you’re fat and old and once thought you could play short doesn’t mean your opinion about How Baseball Ought to Be matters. Manny is not a symbol of anything, Understanding why he did what won’t make us smarter. Guys do stupid shit. Because we’re stupid and we think we won’t get caught. But everyone always gets caught for everything all the time.

Let’s just all make our Manny jokes and then let him come back. We can boo him all we want at all the parks from Citi Field to the Galapagos. We can shake our head and bitch about the state of the game all we want. But if there was a pill that would make me hit One Home Run Ever but sadly kill everyone in Rwanda I would have already taken it by now. Just shut up and eat the sausage, St. Francis.
